Microsoft: Healthcare Sees 300% Surge in Ransomware Attacks

Healthcare continues to be a prime target for many ransomware organizations due to the sole fact that they know they are a patient first industry. Any excessive downtime can mean life and death and the ransomware operators are counting on that and hoping for a payout. Many organizations have paid (United Healthcare paid $22 million for the Change Healthcare cyberattack). When organizations pay, this emboldens hackers to persist in those sectors. According to the study from Microsoft, ransomware has become such a pronounced issue for the healthcare sector because of its track record of complying with the bad actors and making ransom payments.
